TTT: Book your Sandals trip with Ruth

I am back!  My husband and I visited Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica as a belated birthday trip December 26-29, so I’ll be sharing a few things I learned over the next few weeks on Travel Tip Tuesday.  First things first: if you’re interested in Sandals, you should definitely consider booking with Ruth DeMuth, a travel agent with TripGuy Travel.

Ruth is a Sandals expert and a certified Sandals specialist.  TripGuy is a platinum Sandals agency.  What does this mean?  It means that she can give you the same price you’ll get if you book directly with Sandals (most other travel agencies charge extra) and you’ll get her special touch.  She knows the people at the resorts, which means that she may be able to get you a sweet upgrade (sometimes for free, sometimes at a nice discount) or at least advance dinner reservations (esp. important if you have a short stay and/or you’re going over a holiday like us).  She also knows the resorts really well, so she can guide you to the one that will best match your interests.

What did she do for us?  First, she helped me decide that SRC was definitely the right choice for us based on our interests (not being at the end of the runway but still being close to the airport, being at a smaller resort, having the possibility of snorkeling be very convenient).  She guided our original room selection, Royal Grande Luxe, so that we were within our budget but still had a nice place.  About two weeks before we left and long after the resort had been sold out for our visit, there was a cancellation for a nicer room, Royal Honeymoon Luxury Beachfront Concierge.  Due to her ties with the resort, they called her and offered it to us first, out of everyone who was booked, at a very big discount.  We went for it.  Oh, she also got us two dinner reservations, which turned out to be very necessary.  We heard it was very difficult to get reservations at our resort, so we were so glad Ruth took care of that for us.

If you’re not staying at a Sandals but are visiting Jamaica, you should also feel free to ask Ruth’s advice via the TripAdvisor forums.  She’s IrieLady.

P.S. I didn’t get anything for posting this recommendation.  I just had a great experience with Ruth, and I wanted to let you know so you can utilize her services if they fit your needs.
