Safety and choosing your seat on an airplane

I always figured the “safest” seats on an airplane were in the overwing section or maybe that there were no safest seats.  About a year ago, Popular Mechanics conducted a study and found that the safest seats are in the rear of the plane.  Considering the teeny number of fatal jet crashes in the U.S. in recent years, do you think it’s worth the hassle to select a seat further back?  I’m thinking it’s not.

In related news, the FAA just announced new runway safety measures.  See CNN for more.

Not to worry about anything. Just pull a Ronny Regan and fire ALL the controllers. That’ll fix EVERYTHING!
