TTT Update: Travel insurance to protect against layoffs
I posted a few months back about this issue after analyzing some policies in light of the Baltic cruise we’ll be taking later this year. Consumer Reports’ Bill McGee recently addressed this same issue for USA Today. He made a couple of really good points – (1) be careful where you purchase your insurance (wouldn’t it stink to need to cancel your trip but your insurance company has gone out of business?!), and (2) be wary of paying for the same thing twice.
My addition (really just a clarification) to my earlier advice is this: READ THE FINE PRINT! For example, if you’ve only been in your current job for 1 year, a policy that only provides job loss coverage for those employed for 3 years by the same employer isn’t going to do you much good.
