News: AA to charge for FIRST checked bag!

Yeah, that’s right.  American is going to start charging $15 for your FIRST checked bag.  They’re also retiring 45-50 planes and cutting capacity on domestic flights by up to 12%.  American says this is due to rising fuel costs.  Read the full story on CNN.

I completely understand having to compensate for rising fuel costs, but I’m bummed – that’s going to mean signficant fare increases due to much more limited availability.  American has been one of my favorite airlines…  now I’m worried about them.
